Prepare the surface
The tooth is cleaned and lightly conditioned so the adhesive bonds properly. There's no drilling and no numbing needed.
Bond the gem
The gem is placed with a dental adhesive and set hard with a curing light in a few seconds.
Final check
We smooth any excess adhesive and check that it feels comfortable against your lip. The whole visit usually takes under 30 minutes.
Aftercare
A little care in the first day or two helps the gem last as long as possible.
- Avoid eating or drinking for about an hour, and avoid hard or sticky food on that tooth for the first 24 hours.
- Brush normally but gently around the gem, and avoid scrubbing directly over it with a hard brush.
- Don't pick at the gem or try to remove it yourself — come in and we will take it off safely.
- Keep up regular check-ups so we can check the gem and the tooth around it.
- If the gem comes loose, keep it and contact us; it can often be re-bonded.
